Australian stocks has started the week with solid gains in mining and banking sectors, while has China shrugged off concerns about a disappointing lack of detail in its latest stimulus package.

Better-than-expected results from banks and financials lifted Wall Street's key indices to fresh record closes on Friday, while the ASX 200 fell just 17 points shy of a fresh record close.
